And now it’s time for the Monday Sports Update.  Take it away, Evan……

******

This past weekend, sports fans had many exciting games to enjoy.  The sport that won, above all, however, was football. On friday, the Tigers took on the Central Catholic Vikings in what was a very fun game to watch if you were on the Tigers’ side. In a game that was run-heavy on both sides of the ball, the Tiger defense held strong throughout all four quarters, allowing only three points all game and forcing as many turnovers as Pitt had points in their Saturday thrashing at the hands of Penn State — which brings us to the next game. In a very hyped up game from both sides, the Pitt Panthers took on the Penn State Nittany Lions in what should have been a very intriguing game that went down to the wire. As a diehard Pitt fan who was able to salvage tickets for this game, I was honestly excited. And the atmosphere was crazy. However, it took a turn for the worse, especially in the second half. Everything that Pitt could have done wrong happened. Their punter, whose last name sounds like oompa loompa, was the cause of around a 1 to 2 touchdown swing in the Nittany Lions’ favor. Backup kicker for NA, Drew Jeffries, probably could have performed better. The game was still in reach until about 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, but it was pretty upsetting from there on, listening to about 50 obnoxious “We Are” chants in a matter of an hour. However, as an optimistic Pitt fan, I think the Panthers, who looked solid for the first half, will bounce back next week and beat Georgia Tech. For Penn State, good game, good win, and have fun losing in the Big 10. I’ll be waiting for excuses. Back to you, girls…
