Word broke Monday, March 4th that actor Coy Luther “Luke” Perry III tragically passed away after suffering from a massive stroke several days earlier. Perry’s stroke occurred on Wednesday, February 27th, and he was immediately hospitalized after a 911 call was made from his home in Sherman Oaks, Los Angles just before 10:00 a.m.

Luke Perry was born in Mansfield, Ohio and grew up in the small community of Fredericktown. He moved to Los Angeles soon after graduating from high school to pursue his acting career.

Perry is most recognized for his iconic starring role as Dylan McKay in the hit coming-of-age show Beverly Hills, 90210 that ran for ten seasons from 1990 to 2000. However, he is a familiar face to the younger generation as well, known for his role as Fred Andrews, the main character’s father on CW’s Riverdale. The show first aired in early 2017 and will soon release its fourth season. Perry also appeared in the Broadway production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in 2002 as the character Brad.

Many castmates took to social media when Perry first had his stroke, posting pictures with him and wishing him well. Co-star Lili Reinhart posted a selfie of her and Perry, captioning it “Thinking of you, Luke. And praying for your safe recovery.” Marisol Nichols, another main character on the show, made a similar post along with the words “Thinking of this amazing man. We love you, Luke.” Still more kind words gushed forth from Cole Sprouse, Mädchen Chenamick, Casey Cott, Skeet Ulrich, and other members of the Riverdale cast. Coworkers from Perry’s time on 90210 also made posts after the actor’s stroke. Shannen Doherty — Brenda Walsh on the show — captioned an old photo of her and Perry “My friend. Holding you tight and giving you my strength. You got this.”

However, very few castmates have chosen to speak out after the recent news of his death, presumably still in shock and taking time to mourn.

Strangely enough, FOX announced its reboot of Beverly Hills, 90210 (to air in the summer of 2019) the same day Perry was hospitalized. Though many original castmates were said to be returning, Luke Perry’s name was not among them. However, it is possible he would have made an appearance at some point if not for the outcome of recent events.

Perry was 52 when he died at St. Joseph Medical Center Burbank in Burbank, California. He had two children, Jack and Sophie, and was engaged to be married to Wendy Madison Bauer. According to Deadline, Perry was surrounded by his mother, step-father, siblings, children, financé, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, and other close friends at the time of his death.

Perry’s publicist, Arnold Robinson, released a statement after his client’s death that read, “The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time.”

Rest in peace, Luke Perry. Your friends, your family, and your fans hold you close to their hearts.
