“I remember I was running around during my prep period trying to make copies, going to the office, and then I walk into the cafeteria and I see on the television two towers burning. The rest of the day was a lot of trying to make sense of it with my students. By the end of the day, they had all left and I went home completely decimated and wondered how our world would be fundamentally different. I remember coming home and there wasn’t a plane in the sky, which was really surreal. My friends and I were all at the age where we were about to have kids and we were thinking, ‘How do we bring kids into this world?’ It was pretty profound. You will never understand it, but I will never understand the Kennedy Assassination, or the moon landing, or anything that happened before I was born. It really did affect the kind of understanding of our safety and our place in this world.”
