RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 11

Gentlemen, start your engines, and may the best woman win

On February 28th, fifteen hopeful drag queens strutted there way into the workroom with one thing in common: the wish to be America’s next top drag queen. Since 2009, many drag queens have fought for the prized drag race crown on national TV, with many of them falling short and sashaying away. Those who have won have had the pleasure of leaving with the crown and the cash prize of $100,000.

RuPaul’s Drag Race is a competition show that has drag queens competing to be crowned next top drag superstar. The queens are faced with two challenges each week with the fear of falling into the bottom two and having to lip sync for their survival. If the queen fails to impress RuPaul, she has to sashay away, leaving only a lipstick message on the mirror in the workroom.

This season opened with the introduction of the fourteen new queens and the return of Vanessa Vanjie Mateo, a queen eliminated early in the competition last season. They paired up with past contestants from seasons prior for mini-challenges and dressed as famous alums from the seasons for the main challenge. Miley Cyrus is the guest judge and in less than an hour Soju, a queen from Korea, had to sashay away.

As the season has continued, the queens have been faced with crazy mini-challenges ranging from Diva Worship, where the queens had to act in a religious T.V. show praising Britney Spears or Mariah Carey, to Snatch game, a fan favorite event where the queens have to dress up as their favorite celebrity and impersonate them on the Match Game parody.

Episode by episode. the queens have dwindled, leaving only six remaining. with Shuga Cain leaving last. The queens that have sashayed away so far are Soju, Kahanna Montrese, Honey Davenport, Mercedes Iman Diamond, Ariel Versace, Scarlet Envy, Ra’Jah O’Hara, Plastique Tiara, and Shuga Cain. The top queens in the hunt are A’Keria C. Davenport, Brooke Lynn Hytes, Nina West, Silky Nutmeg Ganache, Vanessa Vanje Mateo, and Yvie Oddly.

In the most recent episode, the queens needed to make and star in their own magic show. They split up into teams and performed in front of a live audience. The episode ended with Vanessa Vanje Mateo and Shuga Cain having to lipsync for their lives and Shuga Cain having to sashay away. The season finale is set to take place in three weeks.

My prediction is that Brooke Lynn Hytes will be the next top drag queen to win the show. I believe that the top four queens that will be left are Brooke Lynn Hytes, Yvie Oddly, Silky Nutmeg Ganache, and A’Keria C. Davenport. The top four will most likely have to perform a lipsync and become a top three when one of those queens has to sashay away. From there, the winner is anyone’s guess. As RuPaul has done in the past, it’s possible that eliminated queens will return to select who makes the top two.

Rupaul’s Drag Race airs Thursdays at 9pm on VH1.
