Wacky National Holidays – October

Abby Pingpank and Megan Wilson

October 1st — National Homemade Cookie Day

This month is starting off with a bang! Who would not want to bake cookies all day! If that sounds like you, October first is the day for you to celebrate. It is the day to eat all the cookie dough that you want, the day to decorate all the sugar cookies you want! To eat all the chocolate chip cookies, snickerdoodles, sugar cookies, and shortbread. With all these delicious options, why would you not participate in this holiday?

October 4th — National Taco Day

If you are a fan of tacos, then today’s your day! In only four days, you can eat all the cookies and tacos you want. This is the day to eat tacos and only tacos. You can eat taco salads or even the spaghetti tacos from the famous Nickelodeon show iCarly! If your family doesn’t want to eat tacos, then eat burritos, quesadillas, guac, or anything else related. You could even take your family to Taco Bell, Moe’s, or Chipotle to celebrate this holiday!

October 14th– National Kick Butt Day

This is the day to get stuff done. It’s the day to get all your homework done, try hard, and not slack off. This might even be the day to finish that one thing you’ve been meaning to work on. Everyone has days they don’t feel like getting out of bed, but this day is not one of them. Get up and get it done!

October 17th– National Pasta Day

Do you like carbs? If you said yes, this is the day for you! Today is your day to load up on pasta. Alfredo, spaghetti, linguine, you name it. Today is not the day to eat that salad, unless, of course, it is a pasta salad. This is the day to load up on carbs! Throw your friends a pasta party or invite your team over for a party before the big game!

October 25th– National Greasy Food Day

McDonald’s. Chick-Fil-A. Wendy’s. Burger King. This national holiday is the day to eat all the delicious fries and Big Macs, the chicken sandwiches and milkshakes from Chick-fil-A, or the spicy nuggets and Baconators from Wendy’s. Don’t forget about the Whopper and chicken fries from Burger King. This day will be the day to eat as much greasy and bad food as you can!

October 26th– National Pumpkin Day

It’s spooky season everyone! National Pumpkin Day arrives only days before Halloween. It’s the day to start the celebration for the spooky holiday and carve your pumpkins with scary designs to entertain the trick-or-treaters. Carve your pumpkin with any design from the classic Jack-o-Lantern to more complex dragons and skeletons. This holiday is the warm welcome to the week of spooky activities!

October 28th– National Chocolate Day

How often do you have an excuse to eat tons and tons of chocolate? As we get closer and closer to Halloween, there is a whole day just to focus on the classics: Hershey’s, Reeses, M&Ms, Three Musketeers, you name it. This is the time to drown yourself in all the chocolate you could ever want. It is not the day for healthy eating, so don’t feel guilty if you don’t eat your daily salad. Today is the day to go big or go home and eat chocolate all day!
