"I was obsessed with TV shows when I was younger. At the time I was really into House M.D. and Law and Order SVU in 5th grade. So, I loved talking about them to my classmates. I remember specifically one time I was talking to this kid in my class and he just stopped me and said “I don't care” and just shut me down. I was just heartbroken. To hear someone say that they didn't care about something that was really important to me was heartbreaking. So, I stopped talking about my shows so much. A little later in the year, we were assigned to do a book report where we could choose whatever book we wanted. I obviously chose The Medical Science of House M.D. because House was my favorite show at the time. I don't know how I read it, I must have just skimmed over the medical words and tried to read in between them. But when I told my teacher this was the book I picked, he was like, “Oh my god I love that show!” and from that sparked an ongoing bond. Every Wednesday, me and this teacher would talk about the new Tuesday episode of the show. I didn't realize it at the time, but having a teacher that I enjoyed being around was what made me like going to school. I never missed a Wednesday. It made me realize the impact that a good teacher can have. I found connections like this with other teachers throughout highschool and it really solidified that that's what I wanted to do. These people were there for me when I was a student and I knew I wanted to be that person in a kids life. "
