Every day, more than 90 Americans die after overdosing on opioids. The misuse of and addiction to opioids—including prescription pain relievers, heroin, and synthetic opioids—is a serious national crisis that affects public health as well as social and economic welfare. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that the total ‘economic burden’ of prescription opioid misuse alone in the US is $78 billion a year, including the costs of healthcare, lost productivity, addiction treatment, and criminal justice involvement.” To learn more about this important issue, join us on October 24th from 9 – 10 for a Cleveland Clinic videoconference entitled, “All About Opioids.”  Sign up through the GOAL Office, room 249A.

Look through the sofa to find those coins, folks! Next week, the Key Club will be hosting the Act For PACT coin drive. Bring in all your coins to your homeroom teacher throughout the week, and the class with the highest total by the end of the week will win a Pizza Party. All proceeds will be going towards fighting cancer in the Pittsburgh area, so make it count NASH!
