The Best and Worst Dressed at the 2021 Met Gala
Celebrities came together for one of the most prestigious fashion events of the year, entailing better dressed and poorly dressed celebrities.

Last Monday, the shutter of cameras and the flashing of lights engulfed A-list celebrities as they graced the beige carpet at the hottest fashion event of the year.
The Met Gala is one of the most prestigious red carpet events for all celebrities. Anna Wintour, Editor in Chief of Vogue, hosts the event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The event is usually held on the first Monday of May, but the pandemic altered the date. The event did not occur last year due to COVID-19, but it usually takes place on the first Monday in May. The date for the gala this year was September 13, 2021.
The event has a theme and/or dress code every year for the invited guests to follow. The theme this year is “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”. I have ranked my opinion of the top ten best dressed and worst dressed celebrities at the 2021 Met Gala.
In my view, the top five best dressed celebrities in order were Yara Shahidi, Jennifer Lopez, Barbie Ferreira, Kendall Jenner, Lupita Nyong’o.
Yara Shahidi was the best dressed not only because she followed the theme, but also because she had picked out a stunning dress by Dior. Shahidi got inspiration from American icon Josephine Baker to follow the dress code of the event.
Jennifer Lopez had one of the better looks of the night due to following dress code and displaying creativity. Lopez paid homage to the American theme by representing Western Culture in her look designed by Ralph Lauren.
Barbie Ferreira had a beautiful dress to suit the American theme. The pearl-covered dress was connected to the American theme by honoring old Hollywood glamour. The actress was wearing a gown designed by Jonathan Simkhai.
Kendall Jenner wore an eye-catching look that paid homage to the iconic Audrey Hepburn. The model was designed by Givenchy to recreate Hepburn’s iconic dress in the American movie, My Fair Lady. Jenner not only was one of the few celebrities that followed the theme, but her dress was wonderfully designed.
Lupita Nyong’o honors the American theme by wearing denim, an American fabric. The gown was designed by Versace. The actress was creative and brilliant with her Met Gala look.
To continue with my evaluation, the top five worst dressed celebrities in order were Kim Petras, Kim Kardashian, Eva Chen, Ciara, and Naomi Osaka. The worst dressed celebrities stood out in a way that made many judge them.
Kim Petras, a singer, wore a look that raised many eyebrows at the event. She did follow the dress code by resembling a horse girl, but the execution of the outfit was simply horrible. The horse-covered dress was designed by Collina Strada, which was eye-catching in a negative way.
Kim Kardashian had a rather disappointing look for the 2021 Met Gala. She chose to not follow the American theme this year. The reality television star was designed by Balenciaga, and the look was confusing and bizarre to the public.
The Instagram mogul Eva Chen had a look that was not appealing for a fashion event. She was wearing a dress designed by Christopher John Rogers. The rainbow and checkerboard print did not mesh well or follow the American theme.
Ciara had a look that was on theme, but her dress was overall a poor choice for the most prestigious fashion event of the year. She followed the American dress code by wearing an American football themed dress. The singer paid homage to her husband by wearing his number on the dress designed by Peter Dundas.
Naomi Osaka had a touching connection with the theme, but the overall look was not as pleasant as the concept. The tennis player was designed by Louis Vuitton to show her heritage in the melting pot of America. The true beauty of Osaka could have been shown better with a more impressive outfit, which is why I think she was one of the poorer dressed.
The Met Gala was finally able to take place after time spent in quarantine. Anna Wintour threw a fabulous party to showcase the fashion and stylistic talents of many designers, represented throughout the invited celebrities.
