This season, the Girls’ Lacrosse Team strives to exceed their record, make history, and win the WPIAL Championship. Last year, the team lost to Shadyside Academy in the second round of playoffs, but this year, the squad is hungry for redemption.

The three Girls’ Lacrosse senior captains, Amelia Henderson, Bella Falo, and Allison Lyon, are all excited to get the season underway. The girls have a tough schedule ahead, but they are determined to succeed. This year, their biggest competitors are Upper St. Clair, Shadyside Academy, Pine Richland, and Sewickley Academy.

With their winter training now behind them, the season is about to begin.

“I am super excited for this season because I really believe in us,” Falo said. “Our team has grown a lot over the past indoor and outdoor seasons. We have a lot of energy and are ready to play.”

The team’s particular strength is its chemistry. The girls simply love playing with each other, and along with the high expectations from their coaching staff, they look to achieve their best.

“The ultimate goal is to win WPIALs, but the baby steps are to first have an amazing regular season and continue that into playoffs,” Lyons said. “Another goal is to be united as a team, like we have been during our successful winter season.”

Last year, the girls lost a total of three games during the regular season, which was the best record in team history, and each year they’ve demonstrated a pattern of improvement.  In the 2018-2019 season when Henderson, Lyons, and Falo were freshmen, the Girls’ Lacrosse Team lost a total of seven games. This year, the goal is to go undefeated during the regular season.

“We are stronger in a different way,” Falo said. “We have great team chemistry on and off the field, spread the ball around well, and know how everyone plays, which is great for setting each other up.”

Falo does not doubt that the team is ready for the competition ahead, and for Henderson, the makeup of the roster could not be any better.

“Everyone brings something to this team,” Henderson said. “Whether it is the determination needed to finish a sprint, the technical skill to win games, or even just a simple laugh.”

Though expectations will be high when the regular season begins on March 25th versus Upper St. Clair, this year’s team looks poised to succeed.
