With just three months until May 31st, the Class of 2024’s graduation date, seniors are deciding the paths they will take after high school. Although Decision Day for colleges is May 1st, many who have chosen the route they want to take have already made their choices.
Some seniors feel compelled to share their big decision with others. A convenient way to do this is through the NASH Senior Class Instagram page (@nashseniorclass) run by the senior class sponsors, Mrs. Perry and Mr. Solenday.
“This is our third year posting the senior class’ future plans,” Perry said.
This Instagram account does not only share students’ college choices but also other big decisions students are making for their future.
“The purpose of this account is to share good news about each of our seniors with their classmates. We do not simply focus on college decisions, although that is what we get the most of,” Perry added.
An email sent out by Perry and Solenday regarding students’ big decisions explains how to share their plans via a linked Google Form.
“On the form that they complete, it says it is regarding the college, branch of military or technical school they will be attending or career they will be beginning,” Perry said.
Senior Class President Nicole Mendt, who committed to the University of Pittsburgh, had her decision posted on @nashseniorclass on January 12.
“I chose Pitt because of their architecture program and the campus,” Mendt said. “A lot of my family went there as well, so I’ve been a Pitt fan my whole life.”
Senior Mia Brown also had her Pitt decision posted.
“The University of Pittsburgh is a prestigious academic university,” Brown said. “Pitt offers an advanced pre-med program. Plus, it is a beautiful urban campus with plenty of facilities and activities. Success at the University of Pittsburgh means that doors that you didn’t even know existed will be opened for you.”
Senior Brady Mensch had his Chatham University commitment posted on @nashseniorclass.
“The more I grew as a person, the more I realized that I wanted to go to a smaller college for a more personal connection, and Chatham offered me just that,” Mensch said. “Its beautiful campus is located just outside the hustle and bustle of Pittsburgh. From the sprawling walkways to the historic buildings, Chatham is all I could ask for.”
Other seniors will soon be moving out of state. Kara Partridge had her commitment to the Florida Institute of Technology posted on the account.
“I chose Florida Tech because it’s a great school for my major and there are also a lot of career opportunities nearby when I start looking for internships,” she said. “It’s a great location and seems like a welcoming environment all around.”
While the class account mostly focuses on post-graduation plans made by seniors, it also informs and reminds seniors of important events and opportunities happening throughout the school year. And a few of the most defining events of senior year are now on the horizon — Senior Banquet ticket sales, Prom ticket sales, and 2024 senior t-shirt sales.
