For the Class of 2025, senior year started off with an election.
On Monday, September 16, candidate speeches for the senior class officers were broadcast on NATV during homeroom. To further their campaigns, all ten candidates promoted themselves via social media and posters hung up around the building. The Class of 2025 had the ability to choose between a group of their peers for president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and publicity director.
Directly following the candidates’ speeches on the morning announcements, seniors received an email with a link to the voting Google Form. After four days, voting concluded on Thursday, September 19, at 1:30 p.m.
“I cross-reference all of the votes with the official senior class list and make sure that all of the votes are from seniors only,” Mrs. Perry, one of the Senior Class Advisors, said. “Any vote by an underclassman is unacceptable.”
After all the votes were confirmed, the winners were announced over the PA system at the end of the day on Thursday.
The results for 2025 for the Senior Class Officers are Julia O’Keefe (President), Zein Soussou (Vice-President), Ellie Babcock (Secretary), Chase Timmerson (Treasurer), and Akshay Nayak (Publicity Director).
“I have no doubt that the elected students will fulfill their obligations and make this a fantastic year for the Class of 2025,” Perry added.
Senior Julia O’Keefe has been the presidential pick for four consecutive years. After joining Student Council in middle school, O’Keefe enjoyed the experience and made a point to run for Class Council once she reached high school.
“Student government is truly my passion,” O’Keefe said. “I have held the position of Class President since freshman year, and I am looking forward to finishing off strong with our class.”
Alongside Perry, Mr. Solenday helps to advise the class officers as they plan the most significant events of senior year, including Prom, Senior Banquet, and Commencement.
As Vice-President, Soussou will be centrally involved.
“I plan to bring many new ideas and opportunities,” she said. “I want to ensure that everyone has an unforgettable year.”
During her presidency, O’Keefe strives to make this year full of unforgettable memories, with a focus on creating connections with every student.
“Senior events only occur once in a lifetime, and I hope to make each function one to remember,” she said.
