One of the most anticipated aspects about the start of the school year is having the opportunity to find out who your teachers are. Once kids’ schedules get published, they turn to friends, family, and especially older peers and ask a common question.
“How was this teacher? What were they like? Are they good or bad?”
However, the efficacy of one’s teaching ability cannot be properly determined by one individual. Students respond differently to various teaching styles. Due to this, eight NASH students were asked…
“What makes a good teacher?”

“People skills are what sets good teachers apart from the bad. The best teachers know how to tie the topic into everyday life and provide examples of how we can tie the topic into the real world. Additionally, a good teacher understands if a class or an individual isn’t getting the topic being explained, finding an effective way to re-explain so kids can grasp the content. The energy put into teaching is also important. Students won’t want to put effort into learning if the teacher doesn’t want to put effort into teaching the concept. I believe that effective teachers have a firm understanding of what they expect in their class and how to properly execute their class. Teachers need to set out clear expectations on what they want the students to grasp.”
Evidently, each student has a unique learning style which is specific to them. One individual cannot speak for how the other might react to a teacher. However, the key aspects of a good teacher are shown to be humanity, compassion, and the skill to put themselves on the same level as the student.

Great idea for an article – I see some familiar, wise faces in there. Good thoughts from all, and good for us teachers to read.
