In the blink of an eye, one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the school year has already come and gone.
This past Saturday, October 19, NASH held the annual Homecoming dance, and it’s safe to say that it was a success due to ticket sales and overwhelmingly positive feedback from the student body.
Head of the Student Council Spirit Committee Anna Fiffik expressed her excitement over the achievement and detailed the steps her group had to take to account for the influx of ticket sales.
“I am most proud of the amount of tickets that have been sold so far,” Fiffik said. “We even had to reopen our ticket sales because people were emailing us trying to get tickets.”
Lauren Keyser, head of the Student Council Dance Committee, emphasized the time and effort that goes into planning a monumental event such as Homecoming.
“We started planning in the summer,” states Keyser. “Throughout the past few months, we have had multiple meetings to get homecoming planned for NASH.”
Every year, a particular aspect that garners lots of interest within the student body surrounds the theme. Planning for Homecoming begins over the summer, with Dance Committee members submitting ideas for an overall theme. These ideas are then presented to the Student Council, leading to a collective vote.
“The whole Student Council came up with various themes such as Alice in Wonderland, Ocean/Sea, European (Bridgerton), Midnight, Disco, Cloud 9, and many others,” Fiffik added. “We then showed each theme to the whole council, and we all voted anonymously until we got down to three. After another vote, Cloud 9 was the winner.”
When entering the event, students were greeted with a sea of blue and white. Fairy lights were strung up around the cafeteria, and lanterns were placed in the middle of every table.
“It’s a great atmosphere,” junior Dean Cammarata said. “No one is scared to act too cool or judge anyone. Everyone is just in their own world having fun.”
An aspect of the annual dance that always garners a lot of chatter among the student body is the music selection. Many felt last year’s dance fell short in that regard, with most of the music played being remixes of popular songs.
Senior Zoey Sexton was pleasantly surprised this year.
“The DJ was much better than last year and made the dance far more enjoyable,” she said.
Senior Charlee Sunday said that she hardly left the gym on Saturday night.
“They played “Hot To Go,” so it was a pretty lit function,” she said. “Nothing can go wrong with a little Chappel Roan.”
Whenever students needed a break from dancing their hearts out, the cafeteria welcomed them with snacks and refreshments. Unfortunately, all of the snacks were gone within the first hour and a half.
“I’m still upset I didn’t get a cookie,” senior Jocelyn Quinet joked. “They looked really good.”
Overall, the 2024 Homecoming dance was met with positivity from the student body, which led to its ultimate success.
“Even though the theme was simple, the decorations brought it all together,” Fiffik said. “My only hope was that people had a fun time, and from the looks of it, that hope has become a reality.”
