Autumn, the season of leaves changing colors, scary movies, and pumpkin spice. But a key part of fall that is underappreciated is professional sports. For sports fans, October and November are a paradise, as all of the major sports are in pivotal times in their seasons. With all the major sports leagues competing at the same time, sports fans will have entertaining games every day to watch.
The NHL season started on October 10, and is beginning to get into the prime part of the season. Just recently on October 22, the NHL hosted their annual Frozen Frenzy, with 16 games featuring all 32 teams playing on the same day.
The NBA season started on October 22, with the first game of the season featuring the Lakers versus the Timberwolves. The game was historic, as Lebron James became the first NBA player ever to have his son play on the same team at the same time. As Lebron’s career approaches its final years, he will likely keep breaking crazy records and will draw all-time high viewership for the NBA. Also, the in-season tournament will keep fans engaged and make basketball more fun to watch in the next few months.
The NFL season started in September and is now breaking into the middle of the season. This part of the season is huge for fans’ favorite teams, as the teams that have started off well need to keep up their success, and teams who have struggled need to be better and win games.
College football is also creeping in on the prime of the season. And with this being the first year of the 12-team playoff, more teams have a lot to play for, making the regular season more fun to watch.
Finally, though the season recently ended, October was the biggest part of the MLB year, with the two biggest fanbases in the MLB facing off in the World Series. The Dodgers-Yankees showdown drew over 15 million viewers on average, the largest number in the past seven years.
As November settles in, it is hard to see how any other time of the year is better for sports fans.
