As we approach the holiday season, people will undoubtedly be flying or driving all over the place. With the snow falling and the temperature dropping, factors such as transportation, packing, and organization may not be as easy as they once were. That being said, here are some helpful tips when traveling for the holidays!
#1: Wardrobe
Ladies are not the only ones who should have a crazy-packed wardrobe for this holiday vacation. It’s important to know what the average climate is when traveling outside your hometown so you can plan your wardrobe accordingly. One of the most famous destinations for this holiday season is New York City. Fortunately, the climate in the Big Apple is practically identical to the climate here in Pittsburgh, so, there’s very limited research that needs to be done regarding the weather.
Nonetheless, Nyla Graswick, a senior who is traveling to New York City over break, has done her weather research and is taking the necessary precautions.
“During the day to shop and walk around I am going to wear jeans, a sweater, boots, a scarf, and a cute jacket with cute little sunnies,” Graswick said. “At night I will probably wear a skirt with tights, boots, a sweater, and a jacket.”
Traveling to a different country, however, requires much more necessary precautions. The Weather Channel can provide sufficient information about whether you should pack for beaming sun rays or blizzarding snowfall.
#2: Time Management
If you think waking up at 4 am to catch an 8 am flight is absolutely preposterous, you might want to think again. According to Nerd Wallet, the recommended time to leave before your flight is two hours. At most airports, it is recommended to check in about 30 minutes before your flight takes off.
Diya Sonth, who is traveling to India for her winter break, is wisely leaving at an appropriate hour before her 6 am flight.
“I plan to leave to go to the airport at around 2 am to make my 6 am flight,” said Sonth.
From Wexford, the estimated drive time to the Pittsburgh International Airport is about 40 minutes. Because of this, you should build in at least two hours before your flight, including the commute to the airport.
#3: Food Supply
It is wise to locate the nearest grocery store from where you are staying. One of the most renowned grocery stores you can find in the most popular vacation destinations is Food Lion. Unless you are staying in a motel or hotel, the place you are staying at usually will not permit you to check in until a certain time. If you leave early enough, you may be able to do some quick grocery shopping and make it back to your vacation suite just in time.
#4: Organization
Everything belongs in its own place. Making sure everything has its own place makes both packing and unpacking as easy as it can possibly be. It may also be beneficial to use as few suitcases as possible. More bags mean more trouble to transport, especially when flying. Keeping bags to a minimum also limits the likelihood of misplacing any items you choose to pack.
By keeping all of these hacks in mind while planning a fun break vacation, it is almost guaranteed that your trip will be both enjoyable and easy!
