Shake off the winter chill and save the date, NASH! On Saturday, February 1st, from 7:30-10:30pm, the annual winter dance is returning. Join Student Council for a Night at the Disco!
Rather than being titled the usual “MORP” again, this year, there’s a twist. The dance is now called the Snowball, to eliminate confusion and encourage more students to attend.
“There was no directive to not call it MORP. Last school year, several students were stating that they were confused by what MORP was, and further discussion led us to talk about how they wanted to encourage more friends to go in groups instead of couples. Students last year began discussing and voted on changing the name to snowball as it made more sense as a dance that can be couples, friends, or whoever wanted to go!” said Mr. Karolski.
The theme is disco, a fun 70s theme with a host of decorations options.
As with the Homecoming dance in the fall, StuCo began planning months in advance for the February event. Planning for the Snowball Dance officially began on November 12.
“I sent out an email to my committee [the Dance Committee] and asked for theme ideas,” said Student Council Publicity Director Lauren Keyser. “They came up with some ideas, and then we held a meeting where every Student Council member voted. After back-and-forth debating, we decided on disco.”
Decorations will consist of fun purples and silvers as well as pulsating lights, just as if the NASH gym were at a real disco.
“There will be vinyl walls and disco balls,” said Student Council president Anna Bridges. “It’s going to look like a 70s or 80s disco.”
This week and next week, tickets are on sale at myschooldance.com. Early bird tickets can be purchased for $20 until the 17th, and for $25 the 20th to the 24th.
