The last spring break for seniors has arrived and students will be heading in just about every direction once the school day ends today. From their living room couch all the way to Spain, North Allegheny seniors will be all over the world.
Kyra Malhotra, an NA senior, is going abroad.
“I am going to Greece for spring break,” she said. “We are going to go to the beach, we’ll see a lot of interesting and ancient architecture, and we’ll do lots of shopping.”
Malhotra said that she is excited to learn more about the world and such a different culture.
Most families in the Pittsburgh area love to travel to Florida to escape the cold weather that Pennsylvania has to offer in the early spring. Mia Brinkley is headed down there for this year’s spring break:
“I am going to Marco Island,” she said. “We aren’t going to do much except relax, swim, go to the beach, and enjoy the beautiful warm weather.”
Sometimes, however, the best vacation is the one where you stay at home and spend time with loved ones.
“I am really excited for spring break because I am just going to stay home and relax,” Habeeba Kassem said. “My family and I are going to spend a lot of time together, and because my friends are also staying at home, I get to spend the whole break with them, too. I think that I am going to go to the mall at some point and maybe North Park with them.”
On the other hand, Caroline Baker is preparing for another international adventure.
“I am going to go to Costa Rica,” she said. “We are going to hike on the volcanoes, see lots of waterfalls, zipline through the rainforest, and even kayak around the volcano. I am so excited to see all of the different nature that Costa Rica has to offer.”
Eliana Jones is can hardly contain her excitement for her spring break trip.
“I will be in Spain during spring break,” she said. “We are first going to stay on Mallorca, an island off the coast of Spain, where we will go to the breathtaking beach. After that, we are going to fly into Barcelona. We will be doing a cooking class, see a local soccer game, ride on a bus tour, and even go on a hot air balloon ride. I am really excited.”
Some seniors are using this time to prepare for their future at college. Nyla Graswick is one of those students.
“I am going down to Florida in order to meet my new roommate for college,” she said. “We are both going to the University of Alabama, but she lives in Florida, so she is going to show me around. We’re going to go to the beach and paddle board. She is also going to take me to a bagel place that she really wants me to try, as well as to the mall to spend a lot of money.”
For some students, spring break offers the chance to soak up the last remains of winter.
“I am really excited to go skiing with my family during break,” Charlee Sunday said. “Spring skiing is really fun and interesting because you see people skiing in bikinis and speedos.”
Meanwhile, Jordan Mason has a more tropical getaway in mind. She’s setting off on a cruise to visit multiple stunning destinations.
“I am going on a cruise to Key West, Cozumel, and then the Bahamas,” she said. “I am most looking forward to being in the sun and not having to worry about school.”
No matter where these seniors are headed, it’s clear that everyone has their own idea of the perfect spring break. Whether it’s skiing, cruising, or enjoying a week of free time at home, spring break is a time for adventure, relaxation, and creating lasting memories.
