The clock is ticking until the final bell rings to mark the end of the 2024-25 school year. Summer plans can be seen on the horizon, almost reachable. What are the rising seniors doing over the summer?
For some, staying home and working is what they plan on doing over the next three months.
“I plan on working all summer, no vacations,” Chris Cameron stated.
Katherine Vales is in the same boat, looking forward to making some extra cash over the summer.
“I am planning to mainly work at a pool as a lifeguard, swim instructor, and swim coach,” she said.
Olivia Rodgers plans to work over the summer, but she’ll have to scheduling her work shifts around an extravagant trip.
“I’m going to Greece on Mr. Pirring’s trip,” she explained, referring to the NASH social studies teacher’s annual educational group trip.
Rodgers isn’t the only one with plans to travel abroad.
“I’m going to Japan in July,” Kyle Byrne said.
Others have trips planned, but they are not leaving the country.
“I’m going to San Diego for vacation,” Sam Butler said.
Alexis Solomon also has some far-away travels on her vacation calendar.
“I’m going to Ohio, Colorado, and North Carolina,” she said.
Others plan on staying in the East for their vacations.
“I’m visiting New York, New Jersey, and North Carolina,” Izzie Glinoga stated.
North Carolina is a popular vacation spot, as Vales said she is also planning on traveling there over the summer.
“I will travel to the Outer Banks in August with my family. We do it almost every year,” she said.
But for almost all rising seniors at NASH, summer travel will likely include college tours. With early decision application deadlines in the fall, finding a college they like is important to them, and summer is the perfect time to visit.
“I plan on touring Baldwin Wallace, Ohio Northern, Ohio Wesleyan, and Seton Hill,” Alayna Donnell said.
Solomon also has a list of colleges she intends to visit.
“I am visiting the University of Maryland again, the University of Rhode Island, Slippery Rock University, the College of Wooster, and hopefully more,” she said.
Rodgers’s list is a little smaller.
“I will visit Miami University in Ohio and hopefully other colleges,” she stated.
Glinoga plans on refining her college applications.
“My summer plans mainly revolve around studying and prepping for college applications. I’m not going to any college visits, but I am doing many virtual tours,” she explained.
Bryne agrees with Glinoga.
“I’ll have to really lock in for college applications,” he said.
With no school to worry about, rising seniors will soon realize the importance of both enjoying their time off and getting a head start on their future plans.
But with an empty building due to a week off for the Class of 2025 in preparation for Commencement, it feels like the Class of 2026 should already be on vacation.
