As the fall semester settles in, NASH students are beginning to feel the pressure of quizzes and tests. For many, the key to academic success lies in finding the perfect environment to focus, prepare, and review. So here’s a short list of some of the top study spots around the building and beyond.
The Classic Choice: The Library
For those who prefer a traditional, quiet environment, the NASH library continues to be a favorite. It’s a go-to spot for many students who appreciate its peaceful atmosphere and academic vibe.
“It’s quiet, and it helps me focus,“ senior Fiola Ragan said.
Though English teacher Mrs. Gingerich has more grading than studying to do these days, she can appreciate Ragan’s perspective.
“[If I had to study,] I’d probably use the library,” she said. “But maybe I’d just read there.”
Whether students are diving into a novel or reviewing chemistry notes, the library offers a space for focused concentration. It is equipped with a range of seating options from standard tables and chairs to comfy bean bags, making it easy to find a spot that suits your study style.
“I think I would choose the fiction area there,” Gingerich added.
The tables tucked into the fiction section, under low ceilings and surrounded by books, offer a secluded, almost cozy environment — perfect for zoning in on schoolwork.
An Unexpected Favorite: The Band Room
For those involved in music, the band room might seem like an unconventional place to study, but it’s one that works surprisingly well.
“Since I joined the marching band, I’ve been in the band room a lot before practices,” junior Cole Seaman said. “And now in the mornings, I always do some last-minute test review in there.”
Though often filled with instruments and activity during the school day, the band room is quiet during off-hours. It’s especially ideal for band students who want to squeeze in a quick review session before class or practice. Plus, there’s something comforting about being in a familiar space surrounded by peers.
Group-Friendly: The Cafeteria
For those who like to study in groups or need to work on a collaborative project, the cafeteria provides ample space and flexibility.
“I like to study in the cafeteria booths with friends,” junior Aradhya Sircar said. “It’s kind of cozy.”
With long tables and booth seating, the cafeteria accommodates groups of all sizes. It’s a social space, but one that many students find helps them stay motivated. And let’s not forget the practical perks. Vending machines nearby make it easy to grab a snack or drink during a long study session. Whether it is the next big test or preparation for a group presentation, the cafeteria has the space (and snacks) to make it work.
The Comfort of Home
Of course, sometimes the best study spot isn’t in school at all. Many students find that they are most productive in the comfort of their own home, where they can fully control the environment.
Senior Allie Meissner said she prefers to study “in my room, with the lights off, blinds up, windows open, and my fan on.”
Her setup may sound rather specific, but that’s the beauty of studying at home — students can tailor everything to their liking.
Whether it’s a desk and swivel chair or a pile of blankets and a favorite playlist, the bedroom can offer the perfect setting for long, focused study sessions. Just be sure to eliminate distractions and stick to a schedule if you’re trying to stay on task.
Find What Works for You
Whether you like the quiet solitude of the library, the unexpected calm of the band room, the social energy of the cafeteria, or the personalized setup of your own room, NASH offers a variety of options to suit every study style. The most important part? Finding the spot where you can focus best.
With so many places to choose from, you’re bound to find the perfect study space, just in time to ace that next big test.
