Are Stereotypes a Problem At NASH?
March 5, 2019
Over the past two weeks, the NASH Uproar asked 20 NASH students if they think stereotypes are a problem at NASH. Here are their responses:
"While NASH definitely has issues that are more prevalent, the effect of stereotypes definitely isn't lost here. I see it fairly often when I see cliques at different activities and when I hear people talk about other groups. There is definitely some mass generalization going on. At NASH, though, stereotypes almost become a standard to live by. People talk about fearing they've become a figure of a stereotype. Others judge themselves by the standards set by a stereotype. I'm guilty of this myself. There have been times where I've thought to myself, 'I'm in these hard classes, and I love science, but I haven't skipped grades in math. I'm probably not smart enough to be here.' We've all done it. It's unhealthy."
