“My college roommate was from NYC. Her aunt was in one of the World Trade Center towers, so that was pretty disturbing. Her and I were on the track team together and had to go for a run, and when we returned, we saw the towers fall [on TV]. Neither of us could call home; they had ended the phone lines in Pennsylvania and New York. Since we were in South Carolina, we had no way of contacting family members. It was all very scary.”
