Wacky National Holidays – December

A look at some of the random holidays throughout the month

Dec 1st: National Christmas Lights Day

Get those Christmas lights out from storage today, and decorate everywhere you can to get into the holiday spirit. There are a bunch of different colored lights that can be used to decorate and light up your house! 

Dec 2nd: National Mutt Day

Celebrate your furry friend on this special day! They deserve the attention of the world. Labradoodles, Puggles, you name it. Spend time with your dog all day!

Dec 7th: Write a Letter Day

A day dedicated to doing things the old-fashioned way. Send someone a letter! Text messages are cool, but letters are a more sincere way to send a message to someone. The person you send it to will appreciate it a lot when you take the time and effort to write them a letter! 

Dec 8th: National Brownie Day

The day to bake all of the brownies that you want. There are a bunch of different brownie recipes that you can bake. Make some for your friends and family to enjoy. To spice it up, you can add different types of treats to your brownies, such as Reese’s, York Peppermints, or M&Ms. 

Dec 12th: National Gingerbread House Day

The day to grab all of your friends to build and decorate gingerbread houses. There are a bunch of different icings and decorations that you can use to add color and design your house. You can even have a contest with your friends for who can build the best house!

Dec 13th: National Ice Cream Day

With so many different flavors to choose from, why not participate in this holiday! You can mix different flavors together, and even create your own new flavors! Ice cream is one of the best desserts out there! 

Dec 14th: National Free Shipping Day

Waiting to buy that thing you want, but don’t want to pay for shipping? This is the day to do it and skip out on all those extra shipping fees. Order holiday gifts for your family and friends from certain online stores that participate in the holiday and get all of your Christmas shopping done! 

Dec 15th: National Cupcake Day

With many different colored icings and sprinkles to be able to decorate your cupcake, this holiday is not one to miss! Grab a bunch of your friends or family and make a bunch of different cupcakes to enjoy!

Dec 18th: National Answer the Phone like Buddy the Elf Day

We have all seen Elf and its iconic phone scene. Today is the day for you to be able to try this line out for yourself! Whenever you get a phone call, just say “(Insert name) the Elf, what’s your favorite color?” And, if you haven’t seen the Elf before, spend the day enjoying the movie then test out your new way of answering the phone.

Dec 20th: National Ugly Sweater Day 

Only days away from Christmas is Ugly Sweater Day. Pull out your most hideous sweater and wear it to school. You could even throw an ugly sweater party to bring people together in celebration of the big holidays coming up! 

Dec 22nd: National Short Person Day 

We all have that one person in our life that is way shorter than everyone else in the friend group. Today is the day to make them feel appreciated for their interesting height. 

Dec 26th: National Candy Cane Day 

Coming the day after Christmas is candy cane day. In addition to the classic mint-flavor, there are plenty of more unique flavors and colors, so there’s something tasty for everyone.

Dec 28th: National Call a Friend Day 

Out of nowhere, you should call your friend and have a conversation with them. They will be surprised that you called them and appreciate the effort you put in to reach out to them!
