The air is full of an anxious, tense aura of excitement as many prepare for the romantic month of the year by trying to outdo each other with gifts, candy, or flowers. Others refuse to partake in the madness and dread it every year, preferring to spend time with friends or alone at home, perhaps maybe even indulging in some clearance chocolate. Whatever the case, with Valentine’s Day fast approaching and MORP just around the corner, nothing is more essential to get you in the mood than these timeless love songs. Well-known and far from cheesy, these songs will help spread the love bug everywhere you go, and if you don’t normally participate in Valentine’s Day festivities, you can simply enjoy these bops from the safety of your own home.

1. My Girl – The Temptations

This song is sure to brighten anyone’s day; nothing other than your girl can make you feel this way– and that’s what The Temptations had to say.

2. Can’t Take My Eyes Off You – Frankie Valli

Love can be a common cause of eye strain, so you better visit your optometrist. Valli encapsulates the feeling of falling in love repetitively with someone every time you see them, longing for them to be there to warm the lonely nights.

3. P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) – Michael Jackson

Although this song is from the Thriller album, it’s not about zombies, but about love.

4. Come and Get Your Love – Redbone

Contrary to popular belief, it is hail, not hey. And also, there’s nothing the matter with your head, you just have to come and and get your love after you find it.

5. I Want You Back – The Jackson 5

With 11-year-old Michael Jackson starring as the lead singer, this catchy song will have you humming along, pleading for one more chance at love.

6. Sherry – Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons

Belting Sherry from the top of his lungs, the powerful tenor Frankie Valli sings his heart out using a unique falsetto in an attempt to win over the girl he loves.

7. Sunshine, Lollipops And Rainbows – Lesley Gore

The delectable lollipops, warm rays of sunshine and colorful rainbows described are sure to paint the perfect picture of a day well spent with your sweetheart.

8. L-O-V-E – Nat King Cole

In case you didn’t know how to spell it out…

9. The Only One I Love – The Miracles

Smokey Robinson’s voice is as smooth as silk in this classic doo-wop ballad about heartbreak and love. Slow-paced and sweet, this song is sure to have you in your feels.

10. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic – The Police

A synthesizer driven upbeat 80s hit by The Police with a reggae backbeat describes that magical butterfly-in-the-stomach feel you get when hanging around that special person.

11. Build Me Up Buttercup – The Foundations

Why do you build me up, buttercup?  Hmm…according to Wikipedia, the buttercup flower “is poisonous to eat for humans and cattle, but when dry the poison is not active”.

12. Come A Little Bit Closer – Jay & The Americans

Vamoos, José’s on his way!
