Good Talk: Darnell

The one, the only, the man who’ll help you with your laptop when it malfunctions for the third time in a single class period.

Somya Thakur, Staff Writer

What are some activities other than work that you’re doing to keep you from going crazy during this quarantine?

Spending more time with the kiddos!

How long have you been at NASH?

About a year and a half.

What got you into tech/IT?

I was always just pretty curious about things. When I was young, my mom brought home a computer and I took it apart completely, just because I was so curious about it.

What’s the busiest period or time of year at the Help Desk?

Probably at the beginning of the year, or at the end of the year when seniors turn in laptops.

Has a kid ever lied about how their laptop broke? If so, what’s the craziest one you’ve heard?

Kids don’t ever really lie about what happened to their laptops. The craziest thing I’ve ever seen is when a student came in and they had laser engraved their name onto their laptop using the school’s engraver because they didn’t want anyone to steal their laptop.

On average how many times a day does a teacher come in and say their laptop is not working?

I don’t think I should answer that.

Are you a Mac or Windows kind of guy?

For personal use Mac, but for work I use Windows.

What are the biggest changes you’ve seen from the time you were in high school to now, in terms of fashion, attitude, or even trends?

I feel like fashion is kind of repeating itself, but back when I was in high school you really wouldn’t see the same stuff. I feel like there might have been more individuality.

If you had the choice between being invisible or being able to fly, which one would you choose?

Obviously fly. I mean, who wouldn’t?

But if you’re invisible, you can just rob a bank and no one would know.

Ok, yes, but if I could fly I could just rob a bank and fly to an island that no one knows about.

What is your favorite joke to tell?

Honestly, I don’t really have one. I like to build off my audience.

What’s your favorite TV show?

I think it might be Game of Thrones, but honestly I don’t really know.

What’s your favorite candy/snack?

100 Grand — you’re missing out if you haven’t eaten one.

How would you describe the color yellow to someone who is color-blind?

I would use the song yellow to explain the feeling of yellow.

What kind of music do you jam out to on the way to work?

Whatever’s on the radio, or podcasts — it depends on the day. If it’s a cool day, I’ll listen to rap all the way home.

Biggest pet peeve?

People who get in the fast lane but drive slow — like, what are you doing?

Any shows you’re binging now that quarantine is in effect?

The Circle, Better Call Saul, and just got done with Curb your Enthusiasm.

What are you looking forward to most when school resumes?

As cheesy as it may sound, I love interacting with the students.  You guys make my day.
