The Dash for the Dress
With a multitude of options for a Homecoming dress, finding one can be a challenge for some girls.

While North Allegheny’s Homecoming Dance, “Stroll Through Paris,” is scheduled for October 8th, many NASH juniors and seniors are already searching for the perfect dress. With so many dress options to choose from–from spaghetti straps to strapless to long-sleeved pieces, all in hundreds of different colors–it makes choosing a dress a difficult decision. Many girls actually will buy their Homecoming dresses online, at top websites like Lucy in the Sky and Winsdor, while some girls prefer to shop in person at places like One Enchanted Evening or Macy’s.
There is a wide range of options for dresses, and there is also a myriad of price points. If the goal is to save money, many dresses are available for under $50. However, more expensive designers, such as Sherri Hill, sell rather expensive pieces, reaching a whopping $1,590.
Some girls already have their dresses. NASH junior Dana Pitell quickly found what she was looking for in anticipation of the dance.
“I found my dress in Shadyside,” Pitell explained. “It didn’t take me long to find my dress because I found it in the second store I looked at, e.b. Pepper. At the time, I wasn’t sure what style I was looking for. We were about to walk out when I said I wanted to try it quickly. My mom and sister loved the dress and so did I.”
Though there are plenty of designer stores in the Pittsburgh area, some NASH girls are watching their wallets more closely. The perfect places for them to find their dresses are big department stores like Nordstrom and Macy’s, which offer versatility and attractive prices.
But each year, more and more girls decide that online shopping is the best option. As a result, however, order delays are to be expected.
Junior Sarah Klosky ordered her dress online last year, but she might have a change of heart this year.
“This year, I want to wear a white or black dress because I wore a blue dress for Homecoming [last year] and a red dress for formal,” she said. “I ordered both of my dresses from Shein last year, and they ended up looking weird. Plus, they took forever to come. I think looking in store is definitely the safer option.”
