With the 2025-2026 school year underway, the NASH Student Council has been hard at work behind the scenes planning events and activities.
“We are always focused on improving from last year,” said StuCo President Dean Cammarata.
Every year, a new group of StuCo officers is voted in by their peers. These exclusive titles, of course, come with responsibilities, like aiding homecoming coordinators, planning fundraisers and school events, and kicking off the school year with big plans.
School dances are often considered a pinnacle of the high school experience, leaving the responsibility to our student council officers, who already have ideas.
“One goal that I have specifically is to improve our school dances to get better attendance,” Cammarata added.
StuCo sponsor Mr. Karolski has some big plans for the year.
“NASH Student Council is excitedly planning for our Homecoming festivities to start off the school year and build on our school spirit,” Karolski stated. “As always, we are looking for new ideas for a more successful school year.”
Homecoming, which will take place on October 3 and 4 this year, is the biggest event of the fall. Though Homecoming is typically regarded as beginning with the Friday afternoon parade and culminating with the Saturday evening dance, Spirit Week (the school week leading up to the weekend) has grown in importance in recent years. Student participation often varies, with some themes, such as PJ Day, garnering more attention than other themes, such as Band Shirt Day.
“We are hoping to do a competition to increase Spirit Week participation,” Karolski said. “We are also working on ways to make the Homecoming parade bigger than ever with more advertisements and groups participating.”
Between parades, dances, school events, socials, and general improvements for students and staff, there’s no doubt that this year’s Student Council has much to accomplish. And by all indications, the group looks to be up to the challenge.
“Our goal is to make this school year safe and fun, with lots of activities for the students and staff,” said StuCo Vice-President Arjun Puri. “It’s important to us to get the staff and student body involved and excited for what we have planned.”
