Soergel’s Fall Fest, which celebrates the beginning of autumn, is a popular seasonal activity for many in and around Wexford. It began on September 13th and takes place each weekend until the end of October. Some popular activities include tractor rides, a variety of games and activities, apple bobbing, and pumpkin picking.
Many teens like to visit the pumpkin patch in order to take pictures and to find the perfect pumpkin for carving or decorating. This event is free to attend, although some of their attractions are priced individually, such as apple picking, tractor rides, and purchasing pumpkins. It is a perfect place nearby if you are looking to get into the fall spirit! If Soergel’s Fall Fest is too out of the way, Shenot’s Farm and Market is another wonderful location where similar activities are also offered.
Kennywood Phantom Fall Fest
If you’re looking for something more exhilarating, visit Kennywood’s Phantom Fall Fest. Kennywood, of course, offers a variety of thrilling roller-coasters, but if you visit after dark throughout the months of September, October, and November, the park is filled with scare actors hoping to haunt you.
They have also created two separate haunted houses–one with a gory, hospital inspired atmosphere and another filled with classic narrow halls perfect for the ultimate scare.
Zombies of the Corn
Another spooky approach includes a classic, Zombies of the Corn! The forested complex in Freedom, PA offers haunted hayrides where patrons can have fun with their friends blasting zombies with fake guns on a trek throughout a creepy forest.
If you’re looking for something more cozy, they host a large campfire area with many kinds of foods, including s’mores, and music. It’s a perfect spot for bonding with friends.
Fort Ligonier Days
Although a longer drive, Fort Ligonier Days in Ligonier, Pennsylvania offers an event for those interested in history. The three-day event begins on October 10th.
Fort Ligonier Days commemorates a battle from the French and Indian War and features historic reenactments, crafts, food, music, and a parade. The full list of events can be found here. People from all over visit to view the parade, with tens of thousands of visitors each year.
Yeck’s Pumpkins and Hayrides
A family-friendly approach would be going to Yeck’s, a family owned farm in Freedom with affordable prices for high-quality pumpkins and hayrides through a corn field. The farm store also sells foods and seasonal supplies. This is perfect if you are looking for a relaxing, nostalgic feel. Note that Yeck’s is cash only and no electronic payments are accepted.
Coolspring Ranch
Coolspring Ranch is home to an assortment of activities. It includes farm animals, corn mazes, spooky story trails, mountain slides, gem mining, a mechanical bull, and so much more.
This is definitely very kid-friendly, so if you have a younger sibling and want to spend time with them while enjoying fall activities, this would be a perfect opportunity. There are also many opportunities for those visiting in groups, so bring your friends!
The Beacon Haunted House & Corn Maze
During the day, The Beacon Hotel restaurant offers family-friendly attractions as well as a full menu of delectable food.
But, when the sun goes down, you can visit their haunted hayride, which begins at 7:30pm. Customers enter a field where actors are hiding behind every corner. There is also an indoor haunted house, if you would to stay inside.
Gearhard Farms
Gearhard Farms is known for their annual corn maze. Since 2000, they have offered a specially designed maze for visitors to explore. There are no scares, so if you are frightened easily, this is a perfect place to visit where you can still enjoy the magic of a fall corn maze.
They also have classic hayrides and pumpkin picking, where you can experience the beauty of the farm. It’s perfect for a relaxing getaway during the fall season.
Ohiopyle State Park
Although a bit different than other items on this list, Ohiopyle is a gorgeous state park. If you are interested in nature and watching the beauty of the leaves changing colors, then this is a must-see. There are abundant waterfalls with three viewing decks of various angles. The park also provides the perfect way to get in exercise while still enjoying the fall air and views. The town of Ohiopyle, which sits on the banks of the Youghiogheny River beside the park, offers coffee shops, restaurants, and rental services.
Trax Farms Market
For classic fall foods like pumpkin pies, caramel apples, and apple cider, this location in the South Hills has it all. It’s a classic family-owned market that offers hayrides throughout the season for people of all ages. Trax has been farming for over 150 years, so you will definitely notice the history when you step onto this farm. To add to their credibility, they claim to be one of the most awarded farms in the Pittsburgh area.
