Buy or Bye: Tuxedo Edition

Stefan Bordeianu, Community Editor

As Prom approaches, attendees are organizing their groups, buying dresses, renting limousines, and renting tuxedos. Gentlemen, if you want to elevate your style to that of James Bond in your very own Wexford bubble, you might consider checking out these tuxedo shops that will make you stand out on the big night. Here are three different options for a man on a mission to rent a tuxedo.

A small disclaimer: All of the prices mentioned below include the discounts that each store offers.  The Uproar was not paid to promote any of the following.

JACK’S TUXEDO

Jack’s Tuxedo is located in the Wexford Plaza near Chipotle. This Pittsburgh company has four locations in Gibsonia, Monroeville, North Versailles, and Wexford. The Wexford store has been open for 23 years. The lady who greeted me was very kind and touted her shop’s great deals. She showcased her newest slim fit 120 wool Cobalt blue tuxedo and emphasized its price of only $149.95, including all accessories except shoes. She then showed me another stylish navy blue tuxedo for only $129.95. However, these tuxedos were at the top of their line. Jack’s Tuxedos has suit rentals available for as low as $49.95. For Prom customers with a coupon, she is taking $45 off the final order.

I would definitely give Jack’s Tuxedo a Buy rating. It’s a local company with great prices and phenomenal service. My only concern is that shoes are not included in the final package. A big plus is that alterations to your suit/tuxedo can be easily made.

TUXEDO JUNCTION

Located in both McCandless and Cranberry, Tuxedo Junction is a local tuxedo shop that is not so local. The company originated in 1969 in Buffalo, New York. Additionally, Tuxedo Junction has participated in Prom Fest at NA the past few years. Many hires are NA alumni, so the local connection may be an advanrtage.  Tuxedo Junction has a $50 coupon for Prom customers, and they are hosting an Instagram promotion where winners receive $200. Shoes are also included.

Tuxedo  Junction is a definite Buy. The prices are great, and the service is fantastic. It gains the upper hand against Jack’s, because shoes are included. However, Jack’s cobalt blue tuxedo is a literal work of art, and Jack’s boasts of their experienced tailors.

MEN’S WEARHOUSE

The first Men’s Wearhouse debuted 40 years ago and the brand has skyrocketed in success ever since. There are two nearby locations in Cranberry and Ross Park Mall. Slim fit tuxedos similar to those mentioned are priced at around the $225, including tax and insurance (the tuxedos considered above did not include tax or insurance). However, these are the most expensive tuxedos — you have cheaper options, only you just may not reach the James Bond status that you wish for. Men’s Wearhouse also has a partnership with Vera Wang and Joseph Abboud, two very stylish fashion brands sure to impress your date.

Although the service I received at Men’s Wearhouse was awesome, I regretfully have to give Men’s Wearhouse a Bye rating. The prices are simply too steep for me. I would rather spend a lot less money at a local company.

Overall, all of these stores are great options. Many stores also provide deals where, if you refer enough people, you get a free tuxedo rental. So make sure to contact the tuxedo shop of your choice if you are interested. Also, if you would like to buy a tuxedo or a suit, make sure to get everything tailored two or three weeks before the big dance.

Good luck and happy shopping!
