Fashion Month: Best to Worst Shows
March 10, 2022
The designers of the fashion industry create looks to display twice a year during a month devoted to fashion in some of the world’s biggest cities. The designers hold the fashion shows in the city that correspond with the origin of the designer/brand. The fashion months are in February and September to display both Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer looks. The cities that host one of the four weeks of fashion in both months are New York, London, Milan, and Paris (held in that order).
The more famous designer brands can either flop or be a success on the runway, which leads to the outcome of celebrities wearing these looks on the red carpet. It is important to note that not all designers had shows for this runway season. The best show and worst show per each fashion week is listed below.
The best show for New York fashion week was Christian Siriano. Siriano’s show also stood out amongst the others due to his use of various fabrics including, leather, denim, velvet, and far more. The inclusivity of size in the models and the many patterns/textures also stood Siriano out from his fellow New York designers.
I felt that the majority of designers during New York Fashion Week had great collections, but Collina Stradas’ Fall/Winter collections had enough inferior looks to rank it below the other shows. The famous saying “less is more” was not incorporated into the looks, which usually creates elaborate, over the top looks. However, Strada’s looks seemed as if a small portion of the population would ever wear outfits like the ones displayed.
The best show for London fashion week was Nensi Dojaka. The simplicity yet intricate detail to all of the looks stood out amongst other British designers during the week. The looks were all wearable in a sense that they could be worn to mostly any event.
Richard Quinn, I believe, had one of the poorer shows of London Fashion Week. The overuse of floral patterns, along with the odd shaped hats made the looks of the shows to not likely be worn on red carpets or to events. Some may consider these looks “camp”, which essentially means so bad/over the top that it’s good. However, I disagree with the camp concept being implemented for this show.
I feel that the best show during Milan fashion week was not actually one show, but a tie between three designers. Moschino and Bluemarine both had great collections and looks for the upcoming Fall of 2022. Moschino’s looks are sometimes far too over the top to the point where it is no longer good, but some of the looks really stood out on the runway apart from other designers’ looks. Similarly, Bluemarine’s use of vintage into the runway gave outfits that are less red carpet event to differentiate from the other fashion shows.
The worst fashion show of Milan fashion week was Prada. The main reasoning behind Prada’s rank in last place is the fact that the looks are all similar to each other and do not have a high probability of celebrity purchase rate, in my opinion. The slicked back hair on the models, I thought, did not best compliment the looks as well.
Valentino’s collection was arguably the best fashion show during Paris fashion week. While the runway had no variation in color of the looks, other than pink and black, the creativity was seen through each look. The clean lines/silhouettes and the simplicity made a great fashion show for Valentino, to be worn by many celebrities to come.
In my opinion, the worst fashion show of Paris fashion week was Loewe. The looks all came across as odd and something that likely would not be worn by many. There were dresses shaped like cars, heels under dresses, overly busy patterns, and far more were contributing factors to my reasoning behind the show’s low ranking.
I believe that the majority of designers have greatly improved their collections from previous years, making a memorable fashion month as a whole.
