The Girls’ Soccer Team has long been a staple sport of the fall season at North Allegheny. The team last year went undefeated but had a disappointing end when they lost in the first round of the playoffs.

Even though the season didn’t end the way they wanted, it sparked a fire in the current team to finish what the players before them had started.

The girls trained hard in the offseason to make sure the fall started off strong.

“We worked on plays and new formations to better suit us against the other teams,” said senior Sophia Palermo.

With all their hard work, the team went undefeated in the first half of the season.

The fire in the team was hard to extinguish as the season continued, with their only loss coming against Seneca Valley.

“Our toughest opponent so far has been Seneca. We decided to change our lineup to try and win the game,” said senior Lucia Wells.

Although the loss to Seneca stung at the time, the girls got back on their game and outscored Shaler 11-1 on senior night. Following the Seneca defeat, they finished off their remaining games undefeated.

Working harder than ever before, the girls have their eyes on the prize.

The last time the team won WPIALs was the 2020-2021 season. The girls want to get back to the WPIAL championship this year, and they want to finish what they have started.

“I think we are all hungry to win WPIALS this year because of our early loss in the playoffs last year. We are working very hard in practices and games in order to make ourselves better each time we step onto the field,” said junior Natalie Rak.

“I feel like we have made minor adjustments and still are making changes this year compared to last year,” said senior Riley Cerqua.  Of course, we are determined to win it all this year. We are every year. I think we were underestimated going into this year and we surprised a lot of people. We are excited to get into the postseason and play our hardest and make up for last year.”

With the regular season all wrapped up, the girls enter the WPIAL playoffs this evening vs Bethel Park at Newman Stadium. They stand as the number one seed in the competition.
