On September 14th 2023, rapper Offset announced the release date for his second studio album SET IT OFF. Offset, better known for being a member of the group Migos and for being husband to more recognizable artist Cardi B, met with mixed reactions from fans when the announcement was made because it was his first release in four years. So the bar for this album was set closer to the floor than the ceiling, but after music fans gathered and thoroughly listened, the bar for the next album isn’t even at the ceiling– it’s through the roof and in the clouds.
Many music fans aren’t too familiar with Offset’s discography, but shortly after the release of SET IT OFF on October 13th, fans fled to listen to this masterpiece, as it featured 21 songs in a total of one hour, with features from Travis Scott, Future, Cardi B, Don Toliver, Young Nudy and Latto.
Originally, this album was supposed to come upon fans months before it did, but with the tragic passing of former Migos member and lifelong best friend of Offset, Takeoff, the rapper would delayed the album.
Offset spoke of his struggles following the passing of Takeoff, saying ” I get through everyday thinking it’s fake…. I want progression through the future.”
One very special track on the album is “FAN,” which had a music video inspired by Michael Jackson’s iconic “Thriller” music video.
NASH students expressed their strong opinions on Offset’s new release, it was nothing but clear love amazement and respect for the artist’s new project.
“I firmly believe that this is the best project ever made by Offset, and I think it’s better than any other work the Migos have produced before,” junior Raj Bajwa stated. “From “SAY MY GRACE “at the top to “BLAME IT ON SET ” towards the bottom, it’s a masterpiece.”
Bajwa’s sentiments were shared by his peers.
“I didn’t really have many expectations when I first listened, but I was blown away by the fluidity of the album, and it will probably be in the running for the Rap Album of the Year, as it should be,” junior Noah Spak said.
But some others weren’t as blown away as others.
“It’s a good album, don’t get me wrong, but it’s nothing too special,” junior Brady Meyer said. “I think he has definitely made better.”
Nevertheless, critics are raving about the release.
The overwhelming community favorite song on the album is “SAY MY GRACE,” as it just debuted at number 48 in this week’s Billboard top 100. “BROAD DAY,” “WORTH IT,” “ON THE RIVER,” and “FREAKY” are additional standouts. The album made its debut in the Billboard 200 Albums at number five.
It would be an understatement to say SET IT OFF is putting most fans in a state of pandemonium.
