After weeks of anticipation, the performers who make up the North Allegheny Indoor Percussion ensemble finally learned the long-awaited theme of this year’s show. According to director Evan Brown, each season brings something new and exciting to the group.
“There are never two years back to back that are the same. We always try to find something different,” Brown explained.
For the past few weeks, the NA Indoor Instagram account has teased subtle clues hinting at the potential direction of the upcoming production. Students and supporters eagerly studied each post, speculating about the meaning behind colors, symbols, and captions. Now, the guessing is finally over. This season’s show is officially titled “Eye See.”
Brown described the artistic departure from last year’s design.
“This year is definitely a polar opposite, both in terms of color palette and musical selections, from last year,” he said.
Every NA Indoor show since the ensemble’s formation in 2007 has been crafted with a distinctive twist, reflecting the creativity of its students, staff, and designers. Whether through the musical style, visual choreography, or innovative props, each production showcases the ensemble’s growth and talent. “Eye See” will feature three musical selections: “In Your Eyes” by DG812, “Science/Visions” by CHVRCHES, and “ICU” by Phoebe Bridgers. According to Brown, these pieces were chosen for their ability to support the overarching concept. The show explores themes of vision, perception, and light, using imagery centered on the human eye to guide every artistic decision.
“It’s definitely very vibrant and bright, and there’s a bit of a surprise in every movement,” Brown said. “There are a lot of different vibes throughout the whole show.”
As the season progresses, Brown and his team will work closely with students to refine the show’s musical and visual components. The front ensemble—composed of mallet instruments, cymbals, keyboards, and various auxiliary percussion—will blend with the battery section, which includes snare drums, bass drums, and tenors. Together, these performers aim to create a cohesive and dynamic production that will captivate both audiences and judges throughout the Three Rivers Winter Ensemble Association (TRWEA) and Winter Guard International (WGI) competition circuits.
“I would definitely say it’s all very exciting,” Brown said.
This year’s visual design further expands on the show’s concept. New costumes and vibrant color schemes have been introduced, featuring geometric patterns and bold contrasts that represent how the human eye perceives light and imagery. The props and staging will evolve throughout the program, revealing unexpected visual elements meant to enhance the show’s narrative and emotional impact. Eager students are excited to see how the show will go this year,
“I think the theme for indoor is a really interesting concept, and I’m excited to see how the show plays out,” said junior NA Indoor member Liv Harris.
With “Eye See,” the group is prepared to compete locally and nationally against other talented ensembles, all while showcasing its musicality, precision, and expressive storytelling. Over the next two months, students will dive into learning new skills, rehearsing challenging music, and perfecting choreography. The group’s first show will likely occur in early January, though the exact date has yet to be announced.
