Who is your inspiration?
Other musicians my age who have the same passion for music.
How long have you been playing horn?
Since the end of 4th grade, so almost eight years.
How do you get ready for competitions?
Practice is the most important thing, and then when the moment comes to perform, I try to stay calm and remember that if I’ve put my best foot forward, then I have nothing to be worried about and whatever happens happens.
If given the choice, would you rather play classical or modern pieces?
Definitely classical.
If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?
Blackberries
Do you plan on horn playing in college?
Yes, I have been doing auditions and applying to college programs for a major, and I might join a college marching band depending on what school I end up at.
Which schools are you applying to?
University of Florida, CMU, Ohio State, Indiana University, and Notre Dame.
What lessons have you learned this year as a musician?
I’ve been reminded that hard work is the only way to succeed.
What is your favorite soup?
Trader Joe’s used to sell a carrot ginger soup that was the best, but they stopped making it years ago and I am devastated.
Who are your musical influences?
My peers, who influence me to become a better musician.
You’re part of the pit for the NASH spring musical. What do you like most about the show so far?
So far, my favorite parts have been playing “Let It Go” with the orchestra and putting parts of the show together.
Since you were born in Canada, do you notice a difference in playing there versus the U.S?
I was five years old when I moved to the US, so I never played or performed there, but listening to recording of different orchestras, I can hear style differences from different groups.
