Students here at NASH will soon be entering the spring season. For some, this means sports or vacation — for others, this already means beginning to prepare for the upcoming school year or college.
Spring comes with the start of many new sports opportunities for North Allegheny students. Junior Alex Gosnell plans on using her spring to wrestle.
“I plan on doing TWC [Tiger Wrestling Club] during the spring. They do freestyle wrestling outside of the normal season,” Gosnell said.
Although North Allegheny offers sports all year-round, sports like tennis, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and many others really get to shine during the spring. Spring sports help to keep students busy as the school year starts to wind down and summer starts to approach. For other students, spring sports can help to blow off some stress from planning for college and the 2026-2027 school year.
If school sports aren’t your thing and you still want to stay active while the school year winds down, there are many gyms and fitness centers in the area that might be fit for you. NASH junior Aleigha Revelant hopes to get stronger using her free time in the spring.
“I plan to spend some time at the gym,” explained Revelant.
The fourth quarter also brings the much awaited spring break. This can be a great time to spend with family or friends and get a good rest from schoolwork. NASH junior Nathan Rak has been planning a vacation during this time.
“I’m going with some friends down to Florida for the break,” explained Rak.
Traveling to beaches or warmer places during the break can really get people excited for the upcoming summer and is a great way to create fun memories with those you care about. These memories are particularly important for seniors who may be heading off to college the next year.
After the gray Pittsburgh winter, many are particularly enthusiastic to be able to enjoy more pleasant weather. Because of this, many consider spring the best time for hiking and camping, like NASH camping enthusiast, Riley Gump.
“I have a lot more camping trips coming up with the nice weather. Me and my family usually camp during school breaks,” said Gump.
The Pittsburgh area has many outdoor opportunities, so consider taking a bike ride in North Park, hiking a part of the Rachel Carson Trail, or even just stepping outside to get some fresh air after the cold winter.
For some, a vital part of spring is being able to relax and be more at ease, since schoolwork often slows down. Keeping his grades up during his last quarter is very important to NASH junior Paden Spevitz.
“My plan for the fourth quarter is to just try to keep all my grades up and to probably sleep in during break,” said Spevitz.
Using break to just relax and recharge can be very important to ending the year productively. Getting extra sleep is easier during break since there is no bus to catch or first period class to attend.
With the weather getting warmer, consider taking time to go outside, relax at home, spend more time with family and friends, or simply sleep in a little during the break.

I hope to spring into action.
