RANTS & RAVES

Ghetto, Daylight, & Half-faced Selfies

RANTS

Honestly why is it raining so much? As much as I hate February, it’s supposed to be snowing, not flooding. According to the Post-Gazette this has been the rainiest February since 1887. To give you an idea of how long ago 1887 was, that was the first year that Groundhog Day was observed. Also, all of this rain, freezing and hot temperatures is creating so many potholes. Who doesn’t get annoyed when they’re just driving along and you suddenly go over a pothole and scare yourself?

I don’t understand why the ghetto parking lot is called “ghetto.” I’m not mad about it or anything, I refer that parking lot as “ghetto” all the time, but seriously who invented that term for that parking lot? When you really think about the name it doesn’t make sense. Calling the other parking lot “main” is understandable since it’s right next to the building, but as for “ghetto,” I have no idea.

Another thing that bothers me is when people take half-faced selfies on Snapchat. Do you honestly think you’re so ugly that you can only show half of your face? And instead of looking at the camera (which I agree is a little creepy) everyone always looks up and away. I used to be guilty of doing this but then I realized that if someone doesn’t want to see my whole face in a Snapchat they can stop snapping me. It’s not like we can walk around with something covering half our face in real life, so what’s the point of doing it on Snapchat? Realize that showing your whole face is twice as beautiful than half of it, and have some more confidence in yourself.

RAVES

I love the warm days in February because everyone is in a good mood. After spending all of these months bundling up before going outside, it’s nice to not have to wear a jacket and roll down the windows in your car to feel the warm fresh air. I think it’s a good thing that we only received a few days of warm weather this month because we wouldn’t cherish it as much if it was warm more often.

As the year has progressed I’ve noticed that other kids in the parking lot are being nicer to each other. I really like how people wave when someone lets them out because it shows mutual respect that wasn’t as common earlier this year. While there is the occasional jerk that doesn’t follow the zipper method, people have grown kinder and more patient with each other.

The most gruesome days of winter are almost behind us. Daylight Savings Time starts on March 12th and I’m pretty excited about it. When the sun starts setting an hour later it sparks a bit of optimism inside that tells me that summer is coming soon. Entering school in the dark and leaving it when the sun will be setting in only a couple is hours is really depressing; however, when the clock goes forward an hour there’s more daylight to take advantage of.
