Actor, singer, and songwriter Ariana Grande, released her seventh studio album on March 8th, 2024. The name of her newest album is Eternal Sunshine, but it is also known as her “homewrecker” album, due to the recent events surrounding her personal life.

The album was released almost four years after her sixth one, Positions, from 2020. Grande’s album Positions reached the number one spot on the Billboard 200. It gained over 18.6 million views on YouTube, and 7.63 million streams on Spotify within the first 24 hours of its release. Today, in the U.S alone, the album has sold over 22.9 million copies.

This new album of hers has already gained over 195 million streams, and the equivalent of 227,000 sales in the United States alone. It marks the sixth album of hers to hit number 1 on the Billboard 200. The first single, “Yes, and?” released early on January 12th, immediately hit number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 with over 27 million streams. 

With a total of 13 tracks on the album, Eternal Sunshine is a very personal and vulnerable album of Grande’s. It expresses her feelings about the end of her relationship. It portrays her intense emotions regarding her divorce from Dalton Gomez.

Yet, even though the new album shows the pain and heartbreak she went through, it also shows the positive, new beginnings that have opened in her life. 

The three most viewed songs on the album on YouTube are “Yes, and?,” “We Can’t Be Friends,” and “the boy is mine,” each of which has racked up over 100 million views since March 8th.

Eternal Sunshine is thought to be inspired by Michael Gondry’s 2004 film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which explores the value of life, a theme that resonates throughout Grande’s album.

Fans speculate that one song from the album in particular, “We Can’t Be Friends,” is symbolic of late singer and producer Mac Miller, whom Grande dated for two years. In the music video that Grande released, fans noticed many aspects that symbolize Mac MIller, such as his dog Myron’s collar, and his overall aesthetic. Though these speculations are not confirmed to be true, fans still believe that there is a good chance that Grande purposely added those details to the video.

It is projected that Eternal Sunshine will be one of Grande’s most popular. As the new album gains more streams, the more days it will sit at number 1 on the Billboard 200, showing great promise for the future for Ariana Grande.
