Spotify Wrapped was announced less than a week ago, and the results have NASH students talking.
2025 has brought many new artists, singles, and albums to the app, and there is a plethora of interesting music people have been listening to this year.
“My top album for this year is Parachutes by Coldplay,” NASH junior Angelina Ferrara said.
This album isn’t new, having been released in the year 2000, but it contains some of the band’s top songs, like “Yellow” and “Sparks”.
Adithi Senthilkumar, a senior said, “My top artist is Lana Del Rey.”
Lana Del Rey has gained popularity in recent years, and it shows.
NASH German teacher Frau Brudnok stated, “My top artist is Taylor Swift.”
Of course, Taylor Swift hit the charts for many, especially with her recent album, The Life of a Showgirl. But other new albums have also gained a lot of popularity. Among them are Man’s Best Friend from Sabrina Carpenter and Conan Gray’s Wishbone.
But top albums are not the only topic of conversation. Talk of top songs has grown louder this past week.
Wyatt Case, a junior, said, “My top song is ‘Ghost Town’ by Kanye West.”
“Ghost Town” is a highly popular and critically acclaimed song by West, considered a standout on the 2018 album ye and one of his most meaningful works.
“My top song is ‘My World’ from Conan Gray’s Wishbone album,” senior Lily Saltmar said.
The song “My World” is one of the more upbeat songs from Gray’s newest album and stands out for its drums, unique beat, and fun vocals.
However, not everyone at NASH was pleased to open their Spotify Wrapped results last week.
“I’m absolutely sure that my top song is inaccurate,” NASH TV and journalism teacher Mr. Morris said. “I enjoy listening to Bob Marley, but there’s no way that one of his songs was my most played this past year. I’d like to have a word with the Spotify algorithm.”
Morris wasn’t the only one to have issues with their top charting song.
“I was really surprised to see that my apparent top song was ‘Fable’ by Gigi Perez,” a student who wished to remain anonymous said. “I like her music, but I really don’t think I listened to that song as much as Spotify tells me I did.”
Overall, however, annoyances with last week’s Wrapped release were minimal. The vast majority of Spotify users at NASH were delighted to see their year in music packed up so tidily, though junior Riley Gump did have one odd concern.
“I mean, I thought my results were pretty accurate,” Gump said, “but it told me my listening age was 85.”
