2026 will bring video game enthusiasts a new and exciting lineup of highly anticipated games. People of many ages are waiting patiently for the new features, characters, and stories that these games will bring to players and fans.
By far the most highly anticipated game coming out in 2026 is Grand Theft Auto VI. This is the next installment of the series of games in over 12 years. The game has a planned release date of November 19, 2026 on the PlayStation5, Xbox Series X and S, and is expected to release later on PC. Grand Theft Auto VI will bring new protagonists and multiple new mini-games in a fictional setting based on Florida, as well as the series’ first playable female lead.
The creators of the popular Spider-Man games will be releasing Marvel’s Wolverine this year. Although the game is set to release in fall as a PlayStation5 exclusive, many Marvel fans could not be more excited for the release of the game. Marvel’s Wolverine will be a single-player action game that is intended to add a darker, more violent vibe to the beloved Marvel character in fast paced gameplay.
2026 will also be bringing many reboots and remakes to popular games from the past. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will completely rebuild the game from 2003. The remake promises improved visuals and a newer take on the original game. Although many speculated the game would release in early 2026, the date has been shifted and no exact release date is currently known.
A long awaited installment in the beloved Fable series is also scheduled to come out this year, after being delayed. The fantasy RPG is finally receiving a reboot that fans have been calling “Fable 4” after Fable III released in 2010 and a digital card game, Fable Fortune in 2018.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will be another remake releasing this year. While not a direct remake and rather a retelling of the first game, fans still speculate that there will be many moments from the first game that will be re-lived in Legacy of Atlantis. The original 1996 Tomb Raider game will be revamped and given a new look and modern combat mechanics to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic series.
Set to release on February 26 of 2026, Resident Evil Requiem will be bringing a new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, to the iconic survival horror series. The game is confirmed to have dynamic perspective switching, allowing players to switch between first and third person views, as well as a new city setting, adding to the eerie vibe of the game. The official ninth main installment in the Resident Evil series will be playable on PlayStation5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox series X and S, and PC.
Whether you are a student who casually enjoys action games in their free time or a huge fantasy fan, 2026 brings new stories, characters, and settings for anyone looking to enjoy new games releasing in this new year.
