With every new school year comes an overwhelming mixture of new opportunity and perils to come, the first few days serving as a metaphorical, initial leap for students. Here at NASH, the opening week proved either to be an ordeal of pure dread or a fresh start for academics and social lives alike.

The difference between those two outcomes could deviate depending on mindset, grade, and surroundings. For juniors just entering the building, the day could seem even more overwhelming and hectic.

“The building is very confusing,” junior Zach Quinn said. “I can never seem to get where I’m going on time or feel prepared.”

However, Roma Ranade saw the move in a more cheerful light. “The first few days of junior year were definitely a transition,” she said, “but I’m fortunate to have great teachers and love getting to see my friends every day.”

As far as senior experiences went, Jack Kenna felt right at home.

“It’s nice returning to school and having teachers who understand where you stand in your education but still are willing to push you to succeed rather than give up,” Kenna said.

But for senior Rachel Haas, the new year began with a dose of humorous humility.

”Most juniors ask seniors for help finding their way around, but not me,” Haas said. “I still needed a lot of help so I won’t get lost.”
