Donation Drive Benefits Inner-City School

Here at NASH, students are constantly working to improve our community and make a difference. This past week, select students and sponsoring teachers are banding together to help an underfunded preschool in McKees Rocks, an inner-city community near downtown Pittsburgh.

This drive is just one small facet of the Save the Children Action Network, an organization that works to help develop and change the quality of education for all, from preschool to high school and beyond. Every year, the group has two “Weeks of Action” focusing on policy goals related to learning and funding for schools.

“We decided to take more direct action by involving NASH to organize this drive and address the huge disparity in education, especially in Pennsylvania,” said NASH senior, Samidha Sane.

Sane, alongside Hannah Glasser, Nina Ruffolo, Roshie Xing, Maddie Escourt, and sponsoring teachers Mr. Venezia and Ms. Winters, are working to create a lasting impact on the Pittsburgh community by collecting school supplies, blocks, dolls, board games, aprons for painting, books, and other items that many take for granted. Monetary donations are also welcome.

Donations were collected through Friday, April 27th, and all collections will go straight to Mama Bear Child Care in McKees Rocks, PA.
