Liberty Avenue is a place many of us walk or drive down regularly, but the name of this road came to life for many at a recent gathering here on February 28th. Although organized by the Ukrainian American Youth of Southwestern Pennsylvania, it wasn’t just young Ukrainians of Pittsburgh who were present. Many families with young children and the elderly were also present. People from all walks of life came together to express their opposition to the war being waged by Russia. Georgian, Turkmenistan, Belarus opposition, American, and Crimean Tatar flags were all waving high during this rally for peace.

The general sentiment was clear. It was neither one of wanting a war against Russia nor one in support of American intervention in Ukraine, but one expressing a desire for peace, as well as encouragement towards the people of Russia against Putin

This was just one of many protests that have been happening around the globe. From New York City, to London, people of many different nations are coming together to call an end to this war. Even in Russia itself, thousands are coming out onto the streets to protest a war that people around the globe, including many in Russia, don’t want.
